New and Returning Series and Specials This Week: October 9 – October 15, 2022
October continues to be quieter than September, but there are still a few things to look forward to on streaming and network TV in the second week:
Avenue 5 (October 10, HBO Max) – Season 2
This talent-filled space comedy follows House‘s Hugh Laurie as the world-weary captain of an interplanetary luxury cruise (space)ship who must keep his spoiled travelers calm and happy when their ship is thrown far off course and must make its way home. Also starring Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Rebecca Font, Jessica St. Clair, Suzy Nakamura, Simon Blackwell, Lenora Crichlow, and more.
All American (October 10, The CW) – Season 5
Spencer James and friends continue bumbling their way through college football, classes, friendships, and romances, with one of the biggest stories being Spencer and Olivia’s conflict as they are now at direct odds as they try to follow their dreams.
All American: Homecoming (October 10, The CW) – Season 2
Tensions rise between college tennis-players Simone and Thea on and off the court as Thea is now dating Damon who Simone has had something of a will-they-won’t-they relationship with (which led to her breakup with Jordan).
The Winchesters (October 11, The CW) – Season 1
If you loved Supernatural, now is the time to follow Sam and Dean’s parents’ and find out their story before Mary’s unfortunate death by demon. In the leading roles are Meg Donnelly (who you may recognize from Disney’s Zombies or from American Housewife) and newcomer Drake Rodger.
Professionals (October 11, The CW) – Season 1
Tom Welling is back on the CW in this acquisition from Viaplay, along with Brandan Fraser. Welling plays Vince Corbo, a security agent who protects expensive assets for rich clients. He is hired by Peter Swann (Fraser) who suspects his last satellite, which exploded on takeoff, was sabotaged.
I Love You, You Hate Me (October 12, Peacock) – Special
Because nothing is truly innocent, here’s a look at the dark side of beloved children’s show Barney.
High School (October 14, FreeVee) – Season Premiere
Based on the memoir by musicians Tegan and Sara Quin, this coming of age story explores finding yourself alongside your twin.
Owl House: Thank You To Them (October 15, Disney Channel) – Special
The first of three special rounding out Owl House finds Luz and her friends stranded in the human world while Eda the Owl Lady is trapped in the demon world at the Collector’s mercy.
The CW is trying to appeal to its surprisingly older-skewing audience with shows like Professionals and I’m curious to see how this new strategy works out for the network.
