Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Going Extinct After Season 5
An animated spin-off of Jurassic Park targeted at kids might be somewhat counter-intuitive at first glance. The series, after all, involves dinosaurs rampaging through a park full of unsuspecting tourists, leading to a lot of blood and death. Yet against all odds, Netflix has managed, thanks to some creative angles hiding the blood and death and ensuring that generally only bad guys have a death-by-dinosaur moment.
Camp Cretaceous follows Darius Bowman (voiced by Paul-Mikél Williams) who wins a visit to Camp Cretaceous, an exclusive dinosaur camp on Isla Nublar within the tourist trap Jurassic World is located. Darius is obsessed with dinosaurs, a topic he and his late father often connected on. At the camp, Darius meets five other teenagers who will be receiving the Camp Cretaceous treatment:
- Ben Pincus (voiced by Sean Giambrone) receives his spot in camp thanks to his mother’s job working for Masrani Global Corporation, the company that owns the park. Unlike Darius, Ben is not excited for the adventure the camp presents. He is afraid of just about everything and would much prefer to remain safely inside.
- Yasmina “Yaz” Fadoula (voiced by Kausar Mohammed) is a decorated track star who has spent so much time training that she has not made many friends.
- Brooklynn (voice by Jenna Ortega) is popular vlogger who travels the world and documents her experiences.
- The son of Mantah Corp president, Daniel Kon, Kenji (voiced by Ryan Potter) is arrogant and entitled, but he misses his father, who he spends little time with. Mantah Corp is one of the many mysteries the teens investigate over their course of the series.
- Sammy Gutierrez’s (voiced by Raini Rodriguez) family owns the ranch that provides Jurassic World with much of its meat for the dinosaurs and other carnivorous creatures.
As with any Jurassic Park adventure, the dinosaurs escape. However, when the island is evacuated, the teenagers are left behind, and must work together to survive and escape the island. Their fight for survival brings them together, helps them overcome their fears, and leads them to uncover corruption and deception at every turn.
The series has aired four seasons so far, with season four ending on a cliffhanger this past December. A fifth and final season has officially been announced for Camp Cretaceous. It will premiere on Netflix on July 21, 2022. Hopefully they’ll finally find their way home.
