Emily Osment Upped to Series Regular on Young Sheldon
Mandy McCallister is not going anywhere anytime soon on Young Sheldon. Emily Osment (best known for Hannah Montana and Young & Hungry) recently joined Young Sheldon in a recurring role as Mandy McAllister. Mandy, a woman in her late twenties, catches seventeen-year-old Georgie’s eye while she comes to do laundry at his grandmother’s laundromat where he works. Georgie, played by Montana Jordan, pursues the relationship without revealing to her that he is over a decade younger than her and underage. By the time he reveals his true age, it is too late – Mandy is pregnant.
This pregnancy will shake up the lives of Georgie’s family as everyone struggles with the news. Georgie’s mother, Mary (Zoe Perry), is heavily involved in the church and once the news is out it leaves her alienated from the church. George Senior (Lance Barber) and Mary have been struggling with marital issues lately and this pregnancy brings up some unresolved issues for them as it mirrors the way they got together—George Sr. married Mary after impregnating her with Georgie and it seems he might regret that decision. As Mary encourages the couple to get married, George Sr. actively discourages the notion. George Sr. tells Mary to worry less about what other people will think about the situation but it is only after hearing the same advice from Pastor Rob, who she has starting leaning on and spending more time with, that she seems able to accept the advice.
Osment’s upgrade to series regular may have played a role in the recent cancelation of the Osment-led series Pretty Smart on Netflix.
