New and Returning Series and Movies This Week: December 4 – December 10, 2022

We may be approaching the year-end slowdown, but there are still some things to look forward to this week:

George & Tammy (December 4, Showtime/Paramount) – Season 1

Anything starring Jessica Chastain is bound to be high quality. Add to it some country crooning and you’ve already got me sold. This limited series chronicles the careers and romance of country music power couple, Tammy Wynette and George Jones.

His Dark Materials (December 5, HBO) – Season 3

The Amber Spyglass, on which this upcoming and final season is based, has the distinction of being one of the only books to consistently make me cry every time I read it. That being said, it is also significantly weirder than the rest of the series and I am curious to see how that all unfolds on screen.

The Game (December 5, Paramount+) – Season 2

The high stakes of professional football are abut to get even higher in the coming season as Tasha Mack pushes to make her sports agency a success and the players consider going on strike.

Doom Patrol (December 8, HBO Max) – Season 4

Our misfit superheroes journey to the future and come face to face with their imminent demise.

Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? (December 9, Disney+) – Documentary Film

This is likely not appointment viewing for both but my eternal love for Idina Menzel means I am here for a documentary about her rise to fame (and just about anything else she chooses to do).

I’m looking forward to the final, impactful season of His Dark Materials (based on the book series of the same name by Phillip Pullman). This is a series I didn’t discover until I was in college (thank you Children’s Lit!) but it captivated my imagination all the same.
