New and Returning Series and Movies This Week: November 20 – November 26, 2022

This week, we get still more new takes or continuations of old properties, from The L Word to Pitch Perfect to Criminal Minds to The Addams Family:

The L Word: Generation Q (November 20, Showtime) – Season 3

The drama continues in season 3. As Angie heads off to college, Bette and Tina reassess their relationship; Shane and Tess’s relationship and work partnership are tested when Tess’s mother arrives on scene; Finley works toward recovery post-intervention with the support of her girlfriend Sophie; Sheng and Maribel consider adding a baby to the mix; Dani looks to move forward in her relationship with Gigi; and Alice searches for her soulmate.

Welcome to Chippendales (November 22, Hulu) – Season 1

Kumail Nanjiani plays Indian immigrant Somen “Steve” Banerjee in this dark mini-series about how he created a male strip club dynasty.

Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin (November 23, Peacock) – Season 1

If you’ve been missing Pitch Perfect as much as I have, you will welcome just about any reentry into that world, even if it is through the mostly annoying Bumper. Last seen heading off to be John Mayer’s backup singer, Bumper heads to Berlin to revive his music career after one of his songs unexpectedly hits it big there. Also reprising his role from Pitch Perfect 2 is Flula Borg from the Bellas’ rival acapella group Das Sound Machine (though sadly no word about his co-captain Birgitte Hjort Sorensen). The series will also star Sarah Hyland and Jameela Jamil.

Wednesday (November 23, Netflix) – Season 1

Jenny Ortega may have been an unexpected casting choice for Wednesday Addams (a bubbly Disney channel star is not what first comes to mind) but she seems to fit the role perfectly. Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy where she practices her budding psychic abilities, stops a murderer, and solves a 25-year-old mystery.

Shaq (November 23, HBO) – Season 1

This four-part docuseries tells the story of Shaq’s rise to fame on and off the court.

Criminal Minds: Evolution (November 2, Paramount+) – Season 1

Picking up some time after Criminal Minds ended, with most of the team still around, this series finds the Behavioral Assessment Unit (BAU) trying to stop a network of serial killers while dealing with the changes in their lives and the structure of the FBI. The season has a more overarching story than the series typically has, though individual episodes have their own contained cases and conclusions as well).

The Croods: Family Tree (November 25, Hulu/Peacock) – Season 5

The Croods and Bettermans continue to live together in rivalry as much as in peace.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (November 25, Disney+) – Special

You can’t possibly be missing the MCU at this point in the year with how much has come out, but the taste of the Guardians of the Galaxy that we got in this latest outing of Thor was not enough. The Guardians try to lift Peter’s spirits (he is depressed over Gamora’s departure) by surprising him with an incredible Christmas on Earth.

It’s hard not to say I’m most excited for anything Pitch Perfect-related but Bumper’s scenes were typically my go-to bathroom break moments when needed. Wednesday, on the other hand, looks to be an exciting new take on the Addams family.
