New and Returning Series and Specials This Week: October 16 – October 22, 2022

October continues to be quieter than September, but there are still a few things to look forward to on streaming and network TV in the second week:

Step Up: High Water (October 16, Starz) – Season 3

If you loved the Step Up movies, or just anything dance-related, take a look at this series follows teachers and students at the High Water Performing Arts Academy.

The Vow (October 17, HBO) – Season 2

Docuseries don’t often get a second season but this look into the self-improvement group (aka cult) NXIVM. The second season will focus on the on trial of Keith Raniere, the leader, and his supporters.

The School for Good and Evil (October 19, Netflix) – Film

Based on the bestselling book by Soman Chainani, best friends Agatha and Sophie are taken from their small town to a school where future heroes and villains are trained for their fairy tales. Their friendship is tested as they discover their destinies and seek their happily ever afters.

One of Us is Lying (October 20, Peacock) – Season 2

Season 1 of this teen murder mystery series had a group of teenagers band together after they become suspects in a classmate’s murder. Season 2 finds the teenagers being blackmailed into breaking the law and betraying one another by a mysterious “Simon Says”.

The Peripheral (October 21, Prime Video) – Season 1

Chloë Grace Moretz stars in this sci-fi thriller about Flynn Fisher, a woman who lives in the near-future where she plays a VR game that unlocks a dangerous, future London that may not be just a game.

Criss Angel’s Magic with the Stars (October 22, The CW) – Season 1

Two celebrities train with professional magicians to compete and earn the “golden wand”.

The Peripheral is one of the more unique series coming out this fall with a talented lead. I hope it lives up to its potential.
