New Movies to Check Out September 2022

Each month new movies are released by the various streaming services but not all of them are worth your time. Here are the nine we’re most excited for, filled with familiar faces like Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries), Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy), Regina Hall (Girl Trip), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Bette Midler (Beaches), Sarah Jessica Parker Sex in the City), and more:

Love in the Villa (September 1, Netflix) – Movie

Her boyfriend, has other plans, dumping her instead. Which leads Julie to a solo trip that kicks off with frustration when she discovers that her villa has been double-booked by Charlie (Tom Hopper), a stranger who is her polar opposite – spontaneous and cynical. In each other, they find love.

Ivy + Bean (September 2, Netflix) – Movie

Based on the beloved children’s series of the same name, Ivy + Bean two girls who could not be more different (Bean is loud and wild while Ivy is more quiet and reserved) who develop an unlikely best friendship that leads on all sorts of imaginative adventures. Netflix is dropping three Ivy + Bean movies at once (each clocking in at around an hour), sure to delight parents who are looking for stories about the magic of friendship.

Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. (September 2, Peacock) – Movie

With the powerhouses of Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown in the lead, there is no way this movie doesn’t delight. In this mockumentary, a mega-church preacher and, by extension his wife, become enmeshed in a scandal that derails the mission and shuts down the church. The preacher and his wife seek to reopen their church’s doors and win back their parishioners. If you’re a fan of series like The Righteous Gemstones, this will probably resonate with you.

Pinnocchio (September 8, Disney+) – Season 1 Premiere

This well-known story comes to us in live-action in the same vein of other recent live-action remakes from Disney. When lonely woodcarver and toymaker Geppetto wishes on a star, the blue fairy (Cynthia Erivo) decides to make his wish come true – bringing his beloved puppet Pinnocchio to life. The Blue Fairy promises Pinnocchio the opportunity to become a real boy. As he tries to prove himself worthy, Pinnocchio makes many missteps along the way. This will likely be more of a straight adaptation rather than have a creative take on the series (which has been the case for most of Disney’s live action versions), but they’re still typically enjoyable.

Do Revenge (September 16, Netflix) – Movie

Drea (Riverdale‘s Camilla Mendez) was popular at school, until her boyfriend shared a sex tape of her. Eleanor (Stranger Things‘s Maya Hawke) is haunted by a rumor that she tried to kiss someone without consent. To get revenge, the two team up to make their respective bullies pay. The movie also features Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Paris Berelc (Alexa & Katie), Cassidy McClincy (The Walking Dead), and others.
