The Greatest Enemy the Doctor has Ever Faced: Neil Patrick Harris Joins Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary Special
Whovians around the world received some exciting news today about the upcoming 60th Anniversary episode set to air in 2023: Neil Patrick Harris (best known for his roles in Doogie in Doogie Howser, M.D., Barney Stinson in the long-running How I Met Your Mother, and more recently, Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events) will be joining the cast in an undisclosed, villainous role.
Regarding what role the actor will be playing, showrunner Russell T. Davies said:
“It’s my huge honour to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!”

News of Neil Patrick Harris’s casting is just the latest of a long list of casting announcements for the long-running sci-fi series. Other recent announcements have included Ncuti Gatwa replacing Jodie Whittaker to become the fourteenth Doctor, the return of fan favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate, and the casting of Yasmin Kinney as a character named Rose.
