A Centaur, a Fury, a God, a Loving Mother, and a Vile Stepfather: 5 Additions to the Percy Jackson Series

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the book series by Rick Riordan, recently announced Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, and Leah Sava Jeffries as its leading trio (playing Percy Jackson, Grover, and Annabeth Chases respectively . Now, as the series begins production in Vancouver, five additional cast members have been announced to join them in guest starring roles: Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally and Timm Sharp.

  • Best known for her role as Karen in Will & Grace, Meghan Mullally will play Percy’s strict math teacher, Mrs. Dodds. Mrs. Dodds is really one of the Furies, Alecto, and serves Hades, the god of the underworld.

  • Jason Mantzoukas, most recently seen guest starring in Brooklyn Nine-Nine will appear as Dionysus, affectionately known as Mr. D at Camp Half-Blood, a camp for demigods that he runs.

  • Playing Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson, will be Virginia Kull (schoolteacher Ms. Barnes from Big Little Lies). Knowing her son is half-human, half-god, Sally sacrifices her own happiness for her son’s safety.

  • Glynn Turman (recently seen as Moses Wright in Women of the Movement) will play Chiron, a centaur famous for training heroes. He disguises himself as Percy’s Latin teacher Mr. Brunner, to keep him safe and provide guidance.

  • Finally, playing Percy’s selfish and abrasive stepfather is Timm Sharp (On the Verge’s William).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will follow twelve-year-old Percy as he discovers the truth about his origins – while his mother is human, his father is a god, making him a demigod. In the first season, which will be based on the first book in the five-book series, will introduce Percy to Camp Half-Blood, a training camp for demigods and see him trying to prove his innocence after being accused of stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt.
