The Descendants are Going to Wonderland: New Descendants Movie in the Works

Disney+ has officially announced the next movie in its popular Descendants franchise. The movies follow the sons and daughters of classic Disney princesses and princes as well as the defeated Disney villains. Everyone lives in the land of Auradon, but while the children of Disney royalty have grown up in castles and attend Auradon Prep, the villains’ children have grown up in a rundown, barricaded area known as the Isle of the Lost. When a handful of villains’ kids – Maleficent’s daughter Mal (Dove Cameron), Cruella de Vil’s son Carlos (Cameron Boyce), Jafar’s son Jay (Booboo Stewart), and the Evil Queen’s daughter Evie (Sofia Carson) – are invited to attend Auradon Prep, they must decide whether to abandon the villainous ways they were raised on or follow in their parents’ footsteps.

The first film premiered on Disney in 2015 with sequels following in 2017 and 2019.

The next movie set in the Descendants universe will be titled Descendants: The Pocketwatch and will follow two new characters to the franchise: Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella. Red and Chloe must prevent a terrible coup from happening by using the White Rabbit’s magical pocketwatch. In addition to returning to Auradon, the new movie will also take us to Wonderland, which was teased at the ending of the Descendants: The Royal Wedding special that aired in 2021. No casting has been announced.

Jennifer Phang (The Flight Attendant, Foundation) will replace Kenny Ortega as the director and will also serve as co-Executive Producer. The script is written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer (Magic: The Gathering).
