The Doctor is In: Grey’s Anatomy Alum Joins Walking Dead Spin-Off
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan and Laurie Cohan’s Maggie are set to star in one of the latest Walking Dead spin-offs, Isle of the Dead. The show, which will be set in Manhattan, will follow the former enemies turned reluctant allies after The Walking Dead ends.
Gains Charles, known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy, God Friended Me, and Friday Night Lights, has been cast to play Izaak, a ruthless, confident family man who will do everything it takes to keep his family safe.
Details are scant on the spin-off’s plot (which makes sense given that the characters are coming from a yet-to-be ended show) beyond being set in Manhattan, which has “long been cut off from the mainland.” The Walking Dead has already laid some groundwork for the series, helping Maggie and Negan overcome their hatred of each other (on account of Negan brutally murdering Maggie’s husband Glenn in front of her) and find common ground. Negan has long shown a tender spot towards children, including Maggie’s son, and with his now-expecting wife, they have come to an understanding. There has been no indication whether either of their children or Negan’s wife will be joining the series. This could be to avoid spoiling the last few episodes of the series or an indication that they do not survive the events of the final season.
