Another One Bites the Dust: Legends of Tomorrow Cancelled!

The Arrowverse seems to be coming to an end. Arrow, the show that started it all, ended in 2020; Black Lightning was brought into the universe after the show’s cancelation after 2 seasons; and Supergirl ended earlier this year after six seasons. Legends of Tomorrow was canceled just after Batwoman (and like Batwoman did not receive a final season to tie up loose ends). There are even rumors that The Flash, which was renewed, will be a final, shortened season. At this rate, the newest entry to the Arrowverse, Superman and Lois may be the only show left standing. (Stargirl has not yet aired its current season and no announcement regarding its renewal or cancelation status has been made, but it is only very loosely connected to the Arrowverse.)

Legends of Tomorrow has featured characters from other Arrowverse shows (such as Caity Lotz’s Sarah Lance and Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer from Arrow and Victor Garb’s Martin Stein and Dominic Purcell’s Mick Rory from The Flash) as well as previously unseen characters like Arthur Darvill’s Rip Hunter and Jes Macallan’s Ava Sharpe. Unlike other Arrowverse shows, the cast of Legends was constantly changing as characters moved on and new ones joined the team. This gave the show the ability to reinvent itself each season with new characters and plot lines.

More than any other Arrowverse series, Legends of Tomorrow embraced the zaniness of comic books rather than take a more serious tone. A demonic stuffed doll the size of a building, a Sisqo-inspired dance battle, and a mind-controlling gorilla attempting to assassinate Barack Obama were just a few of the more memorable storylines.

Legends of Tomorrow premiered in 2016 and was canceled after seven seasons.
